Gemfields reported a record $ 36.5 million in revenue for the emerald and beryl auction in Lusaka, Zambia, which featured mostly high-quality stones.
The average cost of stones at auction was $ 59.31 per carat, which is 10% higher than the corresponding figure at the previous auction of the Kagem mine.
The auction put out raw materials weighing 0.84 million carats and sold 0.62 million carats, the company said.
At the third in the current financial year, Gemfields auction, representing products of the Kagem mine located in Zambia, was attended by 34 companies.
"We put two new records - the highest total revenue at the auction and the average price per carat," said company CEO Ian Harebottle. "Our strategy for colored gems, investments in operating activities, the acquisition of the Fabergé brand and the expansion of the international marketing system ensure the further promotion and consolidation of the status of the company we have achieved over the past five years."
According to Harbottle, Gemfields' total revenue from auction sales since the beginning of the financial year was $ 92.9 million, while total sales of raw emeralds and beryl reached $ 96.4 million.
