A rare 100-carat diamond will be delivered to Dubai to be shown to the public, after which it will go under the hammer in New York next month for an estimated $ 25 million. According to Sotheby's, this is one of five diamonds of approximately the same quality weighing more than 100 carats , which were sold at auction.
A diamond weighing 200 carats, then cut into a unique diamond, was mined by De Beers in southern Africa. This is the first natural emerald cut diamond weighing more than 100 carats, which is offered at auction. Description of the stone reads "100.2-carat diamond color D, purity IF, type IIa." This means that it is the most transparent diamond without internal spots and flaws.
The stone will be shown to the public in Dubai, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, London and Doha before being brought to New York, where it will be shown at an exhibition that opens on April 17. The diamond will be the flagship of the auction Soteby's Amazing Gemstone, which will be held on April 21.
Lisa Hubbard, who oversees the region of the Americas in the international jewelry division of Sotheby's, described the stone as "the rarest object of natural beauty." It can be worn as a suspension or mounted in a design decoration, she added.
The first flawless 100-carat diamond was sold at Sotheby's auction in 1990. Since then, the price per one carat of such diamonds has increased from $ 125,000 to $ 260,000 in 2013, representatives of the auction house said.
