The Government of India is likely to be able to provide facilitated tax regime for the country's diamond sector in a special customs zone, to turn India into a world center of the diamond trade.
Representatives of the gems and jewelry industry suggested the authorities to adopt a new tax scheme. It suggests that a tax on the turnover in the diamond trade in the special customs zone shall not exceed 0.25%, to India to be competitive against other world diamond trading platforms.
Proposal to the Minister of Finance of India, has been transferred for consideration in the draft budget discussion at the 2016-2017 year. To a special customs zone has attracted foreign companies, the tax regime it should be simplified and competitive, it is believed by representatives of the diamond industry in India.
A special area in the country was created to facilitate the import and trade of diamonds. It is assumed that it will give India an advantage over these world centers of diamond trade, like Antwerp and Dubai, and provide an opportunity to save time and money to travel to these centers and the creation of new offices. In addition, the Indian special customs zone, is expected to provide a steady flow of rough diamonds into the country.
