Indian diamond exports for February 2014 were $ 2.165 billion (3,318,000 carats), an increase of 16.11% compared to $ 1,864 billion (for 2,971,000 carats) in February 2013, according to preliminary figures from the Indian Council for the Promotion of the Export of Precious Stones and jewelry (Gem & Jewelery Export Promotion Council, GJEPC).
For the period from April 2013 to February 2014, polished exports from India showed an increase of 20.47% year-on-year to $ 18.147 billion (with exports of 31,680,000 carats). For the same period last fiscal year, 30,440,000 carats of diamonds worth $ 15.081 billion were exported.
Meanwhile, Indian rough diamond exports in February fell by 34.07% to $ 112.58 million (2,793,000 carats) compared to exports of $ 170.75 million (4,212,000 carats) in February 2013. Between April 2013 and February 2014, India exported rough diamonds worth $ 1.4 billion, up 1.5% from the previous year's figure ($ 1.379 billion).
