The Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) received a grant from the Tiffany & Co. Fund. Foundation in support of the registration project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
DDI cooperates with the PROMINES agency under the DRC government, which is supported by the World Bank, to develop and implement a registration project in the areas of mining of gold, tin, tantalum and tungsten.
"Unregistered miners are vulnerable to exploitation. Getting legal status through registration allows miners to contribute to the sustainable development of their communities and the whole country, "said Dorothée Gizenga, DDI's executive director.
The Tiffany & Co. Fund. is the largest non-state sponsor of DDI. "To improve the performance of the extractive sector of the Congo, it is critically important to focus on prospecting. The formalization of this sector will be the impetus for economic development and will help in the reconstruction of the country, "said the chairman and president of the Anisa Kamadoli Costa Foundation.
She also stressed that "Tiffany & Co.'s fund" has supported the Diamond Industry Development Initiative since its inception and is confident of its ability to make real changes in the industry through its experience in the field. "
