A stable macroeconomic environment and a sharp drop in gold prices has led to about a 25-percent increase in jewelry sales at the festival of Diwali in India as compared to the previous year.

Over the past few months on the jewelry demand in India has been weak due to volatile gold prices and in view of the short jewelers strike.

The change in the current practice of De Beers through its organizing online auctions subsidiary Diamdel provide small and medium Indian diamantaires opportunity to participate in tenders of rough diamonds, IDEX Online reported with reference to the Times of India.
In response to the appeals of the Council on the promotion of exports of gems and jewelery (Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, GJEPC) and the Diamond Association of Surat (Surat Diamond Association, SDA) De Beers has agreed to register the company's smaller size than usual, to participate in the auction, to be held in the open recently in the Indian diamond Exchange (Bharat diamond Bourse, BDB) Indian center of the diamond trade (India diamond trading Centre, IDTC) .
Until now, this type of auctions held in Dubai and Antwerp, where imported to India about 30% of Indian diamonds.
