Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and De Beers Technologies UK will gather a number of experts at a seminar on synthetic diamonds, which will be held on March 22 at the GIA GemFest Basel 2015 in Basel.
The event will be led by Tom Moses, Chief Analyst for Laboratory Analysis and Research at the Gemological Institute of America, and Dr. Simon Lawson, Head of the De Beers Technical Department in the UK, and Director of Research at GIA Vui Wang (Wuyi Wang), reports the Rapaport portal.
Over the past decade, the technology for the production of synthetic diamonds has developed rapidly, and as a result of this process, many synthetic stones of jewelry quality have come to the attention of the media. However, the reports on issued for natural synthetic diamonds became the object of close attention and concern of representatives of the diamond industry.
GIA and De Beers have devoted years to the research and identification of these diamonds grown in the laboratory. They became the basis for creating special devices and methods for the effective determination of synthetic stones among natural sizes ranging from melee to large.
Wang and Lawson will talk about the most modern methods of research and identification, as well as talk about what the GIA and De Beers are doing to cope with the possible consequences of selling hidden synthetic diamonds for natural. A series of questions and answers will follow immediately after the discussion with the facilitator.
