Diamcor Mining produced a rough diamond of octahedral shape weighing 5.36 carats green during the original processing of ore material ranging in size from 1.0 to 0.45 mm, which is currently underway on the site Krohn-Endora (Krone-Endora) Venice Project ( Venetia) in South Africa.
This diamond was sent to Antwerp, together with other rough stones mined in the framework of current activities on the project.
"The value of this untreated green diamond for the company is currently unclear, but given the rarity and the potential high cost of green diamonds, the analysis of the diamond will be held in the coming weeks to help companies determine the best course of action in respect of this stone" - said in Diamcor.
"In some cases, radiation can lead to the fact that the outer surface of the rough diamond is green, as apparently happened with two very small diamonds of lower quality, previously learned in testing and putting the project into operation," - added to the company.
Although the initial analysis may give some idea of green rough diamonds, the company has yet to decide whether to cut and determine whether the diamond retains its green color throughout the entire volume or green color is limited only to the outer surfaces.

Angolan state diamond company Endiama said that it will conduct a search for new diamond deposits in the country in partnership with Russia's Alrosa.
Local news agency Angop quoted the general director of Endiama sumbul Carlos (Carlos Sumbula), who said that Angola is looking forward to discovering new kimberlites.
Of the more than 1,000 known kimberlite exploration in Angola made only three, including mine Catoca (Catoca), which accounts for 87% of diamond mining in the country.
Angolan and Russian companies will also explore for alluvial diamond deposits, says the Angop.
